Our technicians were in the business before laser scanning and CAD became commonplace. They honed their skills when crowns were each hand waxed, cast and finished.  Going back to when every metal casting was opaqued and the art of porcelain application was the only way to fabricate a beautiful crown. As new technology was introduced to the market, we bought in slowly, and with hesistation. We loved the idea of scanning and millling zirconia but couldn’t commit to producing sub-par zirconia crowns. Instead, we spent a decade applying traditional porcelain to zirconia substructures to create a metal free, premium crown. In that time zirconia went from ugly and opaque to translucent and multilayered. We slowly transitioned our posterior crowns to solid, multilayered products and not long after did the same for anterior crowns. While we still offer a layered porcelain option, on all restorations we’ve seen the demand decline a little each year. With zirconia materials now ranging in strength from ultra strong to extremely translucent, there are products available to satisfy the need of every case.
